How to apply directly for the SSB and NDA without an entrance exam?



Joining the Indian Defence Service is a dream to many. And the route to getting selected is not everyone’s cup of tea. It takes a lot of effort, hardship, consistency, and discipline. Life gives you ample opportunities to get into the Army, Navy and Air Force, and in that case leave no stone unturned. 

 

How to directly apply for the SSB without an entrance test?

We know about joining Indian Defence Service through SSB Interview by clearing an exam conducted by UPSC. There is also scope of direct SSB Interview entry. 

 

In this particular regard you need not write any exam or test to reach SSB Interview, you will be directly eligible for the interview. 

There are eight such slots. They are:

  • Technical Entry Scheme (TES)
  • Technical Graduate Course (TGC)
  • SSC Tech
  • University Entry Scheme - Army (UES)
  • University Entry Scheme - Navy (UES)
  • Indian Navy - Logistic, Technical, Executive, Pilot
  • Special Entry Scheme - NCC
  • Fast Track Selection (FTS) by IAF 


 

Let’s know them in brief:

 

Technical Entry Scheme (TES)

It is for 12th standard students. They are selected on the basis of their aggregate in higher secondary in the following particular subjects mathematics, physics, and chemistry. 

The cut-off for this special entry is 75% to 80%. 

The entry is available for Army and Navy.

The TES entry is meant for male candidates only.

Technical Graduate Course (TGC)

This is for engineering graduates, precisely technical graduates B.Tech and B.E. depending on the stream. The male aspirants can apply from final year onwards. 

The age eligibility for this special entry is 20 - 27 years. 

Initially every tech- graduate can apply but a cut-off is referred  for this special entry that rests at 62% to 65%.

Like TES it is also meant for male candidates only. 

The entry is for Indian Army. 

 

SSC - Tech

It is again for tech graduates, BE and B.tech. Subject as per the eligibility stream. So, like TGC it is for engineering graduates but both male and females can apply for this. 

SSC tech ensures direct entry for Indian Army. Students from final year and onwards are eligible to apply for SSC tech. 

The cut-off for getting selected in SSC tech is 62% - 65%.

University Entry Scheme - Army (UES)

The final year engineering student BE and B.tech are eligible to apply for this direct entry scheme. It entitles for permanent commission in the technical arm. Candidates are usually hired through campus placements. 

It is only meant for male candidates. 

The candidates are shortlisted on the basis of their overall aggregate. 

As the name suggests the selection is done for Indian Army.

University Entry Scheme - Navy (UES)

BE and B.tech students are considered eligible for applying in this category. 

Just like the UES- Army, it is male specific entry category. 

The candidates are selected on the basis of overall percentage. 

Indian Navy recruits are recruited through this. 


 

Indian Navy - Logistic, Technical, Executive, Pilot

Every graduate is eligible to apply for this slot, depending on the type of entry. The gender eligibility is also marked on the basis of the entry type. 

The cut off lays between 75% to 80% approximately. 


 

Special Entry Scheme - NCC

It is for graduates With NCC-C certificates. Both males and females are eligible to apply. 

Unmarried males and females are invited for Short Service Commission in the Indian Army.

Fast Track Selection (FTS) by IAF

Post graduates are entitled to apply for this direct entry. In this entry, candidates are selected depending upon the number of candidates selected through AFCAT. If the selected candidates in AFCAT are less, FTS is conducted. 

It is only for the meteorological branch. Both males and females can apply for FTS.

 

 

How to apply directly for NDA without an entrance exam?

There is no direct entry to NDA. You need to appear in the entrance examination conducted by UPSC. The candidates are recruited for Army, Navy and AirForce. 

For NDA you are to pass a written exam. 

 

However you can apply via TES (Technical Entrance Scheme) after 10+2. Through this you will be directly called for SSB Interview. This is specifically for joining Indian Air Force. Aspirants with an aggregate below 75% are not eligible to apply for TES.


 

Only unmarried males are eligible to apply for NDA Entrance examination. Females are not allowed to sit for NDA entrance examination.

How do females directly apply for SSB interviews without an entrance test?

As per the recent formulations women are eligible to directly apply for Indian Army only. The direct entry of female aspirants in NAvy and Air Force has been paused. 

 

Females can directly apply for the SSB interview through the following entries:

 

1. SSC Tech

Females who are engineering graduates or in their final year of BE or B.tech are eligible to apply for this direct entry scheme. It facilitates entry in the Indian Army. The cut-off for SSC tech is generally 62% - 65%.

2. NCC - Special Entry Scheme

Females with NCC-C are eligible to apply for this direct entry. Martial specific is the scheme, which says, the applicant must be unmarried to apply for short service commission in Indian Army. 


 

3. Fast Track Selection by IAF

It is only meant for the meteorological branch. This direct entry is conducted only when the number of candidates selected through AFCAT are less. Post graduates are eligible to apply for the FTS. It is conducted in a very short span and in a short notice.
